Metallica and Ne-Yo both had a hand in Heart’s new album, “Beautiful Broken.” Metallica frontman James Hetfield contributes vocals and new lyrics to the title track, which is a remake of a bonus track from Heart’s last album, “Fanatic.” Ne-Yo contributed the song “Two” to the album after Heart guitarist Nancy Wilson heard a demo of it used in a TV show that her husband was working on. She begged Ne-Yo to let Heart record it and Ne-Yo is a fan of the band. Heart remade several of their own songs on “Beautiful Broken” that they felt could be produced better or recorded in a different key. “Beautiful Broken” comes out July 8th. This year, Dave Matthews Band is celebrating their 25th anniversary and what better way to honor the milestone by taking a look back? Legacy Recordings is releasing DMB’s 1996 album, “Crash,” on vinyl for the first time ever.
This version of the record will be two-LPs, and feature an eight-page booklet packed with previously unpublished photographs of the band. The 25th anniversary edition of “Crash” hits stores on July 15th, but you can preorder it now.
Queen and Adam Lambert paid tribute to those who lost their lives at Orlando’s Pulse nightclub during their set at the Isle of Wight Festival in the UK. “This song is dedicated to those that lost their life last night in Orlando, Florida, and anybody that has been victim of senseless violence or hatred,” Lambert told the crowd before the band launched into the Queen classic “Who Wants To Live Forever?”
- Later, Lambert took to Twitter to share his thoughts on what happened, and to ask his followers to donate money to the GoFundMe page set up for the victims. Check out the video of Queen’s performance.
Elton John is known to throw tantrums, and that’s just what he did during a performance in England over the weekend. Elton was performing at the Leicestershire County Cricket Ground when he threatened to stop his show over security guards who wouldn’t let fans leave their seats to dance. “Security guards, sit down or I’m not going to do the rest of the concert and you’ll end up in f***ing trouble,” he shouted. “Now sit down you pr***s.” But that wasn’t the only issue. Fans say Elton ran off stage in a tizzy several times, and then ended the show 40 minutes earlier than expected without an encore and without even saying goodbye to the crowd. A rep for Elton, however, insists he didn’t end the show early. “Elton played a full set of well over two hours. He came onstage earlier than normal so that’s why it finished when it did,” the rep said. “He did ask a few of the security people to relax and let the audience stand up and dance if they wanted to.” Check out video of Elton’s tirade here.
- ONE MORE THING! Elton’s latest single “A Good Heart” has landed at number 30 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart, his 72nd song to land on that chart. Elton handily holds the record for the most AC chart hits, with Barbra Streisand in second with 64. Elton’s first AC charting tune was “Your Song” which peaked at number nine in 1970.
After months of legal back and forth, Led Zeppelin is finally heading to court today. The band Spirit is suing the iconic band for copyright infringement over “Stairway to Heaven,” claiming they took certain elements from their 1968 instrumental track, “Taurus.” Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones are are listed among the defendants and while it’s believed they’ll be in the court room, it hasn’t been confirmed they’ll testify. We’ll keep you posted.
