FRIDAY
It’s Fancon Weekend! and look who’s here for it!
Hear our interview with Lou Ferrigno below.
People who know nothing about horses, racing, or betting suddenly have to become experts as they place their cash on the Kentucky Derby. As everyone ramps up for the big race tomorrow, here are some tips to max your chances of winning:
- Don’t fear the favorite. Since 2013, every favourite at post-time has won.
- Prep races matter, too. The last seven Kentucky Derby winners also won their prep race prior.
- Unlike casinos, where the house sets the odds, horse racing odds are set by how the betting is flowing for the race.
- “Homefield advantage” really exists in horse racing. Horses that have done well at Churchill Downs will continue to do so, and it’s noted on the racing form.
- If you see a horse “misbehaving” in the paddock before a race, then staying away isn’t the worst idea.
- If you’re torn between two horses, try an exacta box bet.
- Race Day consists of 14 races. Budget your betting money wisely.
Some people are turned off from placing a bet because they don’t know how the odds work. Here’s an easy way to figure all that out”:
- Anything-to-1:To figure how much you’ll win, just double the first number, and add your bet. So, if you place $2 on a 3-1 horse, you’ll double the 3 and add $2 for an $8 payout. For a 4-1 horse, double the four and add $2 for a $10 payout.
- Anything-to-2:Using the $2 bet again, just add the two numbers up. A 7-2 horse will pay $9. A 9-2 horse will pay $11.
- Anything-to-5:This one’s a bit more complex. Let’s say you’re betting a horse that’s going off at 8-5. Just double the odds in your head to 16-10, then divide it by 10 – making it 1.6 – 1…then, double the first number…making it 3.2. Add your $2 bet and you’ll see your payout is $5.20.
It’s like a frickin movie! An off duty police officer rescues a woman from a burning car in San Antonio, Texas.
The movie ‘Blinded By The Light’ is the true story of a kid inspired by the music of Bruce Springsteen. It’s out August 14th but the trailer has been released. Is it for you?

Monday we posed the question why aren’t prisoners cleaning up the litter. We found out from listeners that the idea has support and that they indeed, used to do that in Prince George. One commented that the likely reason is the cost (paying corrections to supervise) and that it may not be the safest idea. Then we saw this and although there is a cost involved, it could be an idea that may work here.

Sting stopped by “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” Friday and had a little fun with a classic Police hit. Sting also performed a new take on the 1981 Police track “Demolition Man,” which will be featured on his upcoming album “My Songs,” which has him re imagining some of his classic tracks.
