This is a great group of kids with great coachs. They deserve our support. They could win a trip to a Canucks game for the entire team. Coach Larson’s letter to our station is worth the read. This is what it is all about.

My name is Scott Larsen, head coach of the Atom house 2 Purple Devils minor hockey team.
About us.
At the beginning of the season there was a draft done by the head coaches who had signed up to volunteer. There were 8 teams and 4 head coaches. Those of us who signed up to be assistants were asked to step in as head coaches. I knew one of the players and was drafting blind for the rest. Little did I know I drafted the youngest and most inexperienced team. Our goal was to have so much fun that every kid would want to show up every game and sign up for hockey next year. This was a tough job. We were losing game after game by double digit goals, getting beat 19-0, 20-1, 21-2…….
We had to teach the boys how to lose and still have fun. Our team manager went above and beyond to set up road trips, contest entries, cougars and spruce kings game events and even a christmas party. During the season, our team became noticed for how much fun we were having and how hard we worked, never giving up every shift while getting beat so badly. While at a tournament in Valemount, after one such beating, the referee’s came into our dressing room and told the kids that in all their years of reffing they had never seen a bunch of kids so happy while losing so badly and they thanked them for being able to ref such a team. In all my years of hockey I had never seen a ref do that. It was special. The kids were so pumped, they went out and won the last game of the tourney to come in NOT LAST!
We entered the ‘cheer like never before’ contest and our enthusiasm shone through to win the regionals and compete for the national prize.
The Grand Prize (approx $56000)
40 people win airfare, 2 night accomodations, Vancouver vs Edmonton game tickets, meet and greet 2 players, lunch and dinner, tour of GM Place and get to perform their cheers in the Canucks dressing room for the April 11, 2015 game. This contest is based on votes for the winner on the Hometown Hockey website, and will only run for one week. People can vote once per day, per IP address.
Our Idea
To generate intrest and have a chance to win in such short notice we decided to create a Facebook page for the Purple Devils and create a prize to generate the votes and give our dream a boost. We will give 2 of our tickets to 1 person we choose who liked or shared our page, and gave us a 20 word or less reason why they should be chosen if we win. This prize is worth approx $2800. The winners would be our honoured guests.
Final Thoughts
Many of the entrents were done months ago and many would have forgotten about it. It is very fresh in the minds of Prince Georgians as Hometown Hockey was just through town. I believe this gives us an advantage and a real chance to win if we get the word out with such a fantastic prize for a hockey fan. The city needs to be the reason we win. We believe!
Thank you, Scott Larsen.
