Gregg Allman‘s final album will come out on September 8th. Producer Don Was says Allman did not have the lungpower on the “Southern Blood” album that he once had, but they felt the “raw, weathered performances were honest and compelling.” Allman died in May from complications from liver cancer. He chose the name “Southern Blood” because Allman and his daughter had commissioned artist Vincent Castiglia to do a portrait of Allman, and Castiglia used Allman’s actual blood in the paint. The vinyl version and the deluxe C-D will include a print of the portrait.

The band Yes will have another two-drummer approach to concerts this year and they looked no further than the son of guitarist Steve Howe to fit the bill. Dylan Howe will play drums along Alan White on the Yestival tour that begins August 4th in Greensboro, North Carolina. White says it’s a pleasure to welcome Dylan Howe to the stage to play with him. Dylan Howe says White’s drumming is part of the reason why he started playing drums in the first place. White and former Yes drummer Bill Bruford both played drums on the Yes “Union” tour of the early 1990s.
