Here’s a guy who gets it! Listen to the message not the words! If your message is a good one, just say it. Don’t let the social correctness of the week make you nervous about the words us choose to deliver your message. David Oyelowo get’s it and defends Benedict Cumberbatch who used the word ‘coloured.’
-Doug Jones
The actor who plays Martin Luther King in “Selma” is speaking about the racial controversy over fellow British actor Benedict Cumberbatch. David Oyelowo (oh-YEL’-oh-woh) says people really shouldn’t be concerned that Cumberbatch used the outdated term “coloured” to describe black actors. Oyelowo notes these days in the U-S, minorities are often referred to as “people of colour” — and there’s really no difference between the terms. He also says people should look beyond the word Cumberbatch used — and hear his message: that there are more opportunities for minority actors in the U-S than there are in the U-K. Both actors say that needs to change.
