Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band broke another record (I know it’s like a broken record…the irony is killing me.) Tuesday’s show in East Rutherford, New Jersey, was 4 hours long. That’s their longest U-S show ever. Their longest show ever was in Helsinki, Finland, in 2012, at four hours and six minutes.
Sting’s new album finally has a release date. “57th & 9th,” Sting’s first rock/pop album in over a decade, is set to drop on November 11th. And it’s not coming one way – it’ll be released in standard, deluxe and super deluxe editions. The album’s first single, “I Can’t Stop Thinking About You,” is out now.
The Johnny Winter auction is offering up a little bit of Johnny…really. A bit of his beard, it’s over 35 years old, is one of the things you can bid for. You can also bid on the very first instrument he owned (stop that!)…a ukulele. Or you could bid on his 1962 Beaumont High School class ring, a black cowboy hat decorated in feathers and fur. his 1970 health insurance card, feather boas (yup…his) and the autographed folding chair he sat in for his last concert. The auction runs September 30 to October 1 in New York.
Tomorrow is Donovan Day in Los Angeles. City leaders will make a proclamation at L-A City Hall. Donovan will do a brief acoustic performance. Saturday marks the 50th anniversary of Donovan’s song “Sunshine Superman” hitting number one on the Billboard pop chart. Donovan will launch a tour to mark the anniversary beginning Monday in Fairfield, Iowa.
Kiefer Sutherland had no idea how tough it was to be a touring musician until he did it himself. Sutherland toured behind his “Down In A Hole” album and calls that life “a grind.” He had 11 people on a 12-person bus. He says they really had to take care of themselves because the bus was “a floating petri dish.” Sutherland says he’s heard how touring can make people crazy, like the story about Who drummer Keith Moon throwing a T-V out of a hotel room. He says “We didn’t have the budget for that, nor did we have the time.” Sutherland will return to acting this fall in the A-B-C series “Designated Survivor.”
