Imagine running up close to two-million dollars in legal bills in a little over three months. That’s what’s up with Prince’s estate. The special administration overseeing the musician’s estate is asking for permission to pay off several law firms for work done on the estate since late April, when Prince died. The bulk of the money will go to the Stinson Leonard Street firm. In another document filed with the court, the company overseeing Prince’s estate has asked permission to list some of Prince’s properties for sale.
Cyndi Lauper is not ready to become a blue-haired old lady. Pink, however, is fine. Lauper, who is 63, tells AARP The Magazine she has reached an age where she can have pink hair if she wants it, or blue. She says blue tends to turn a little green, so she’s going with pink for now. When asked about getting older, Lauper says, “Age has nothing to do with it. You’ll get wherever it is you want to go at whatever time in your life you want to do it.”
Green Day has announced a new single…and we only have to wait until next week to hear it. Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong announced the news on Instagram, but isn’t giving us any details on whether this means a new album is coming. “Dear friends!” the rocker wrote. “Green Day is putting out a new single called “BANG BANG” August 11. stay tuned for more details.” This marks the first new music from the band, aside from the one-off Christmas single “Xmas Time of Year” and some demos released on Record Store Day, since 2012’s trilogy of albums “¡Uno!,” “¡Dos!,” and “¡Tré!”
Yesterday would have been Jerry Garcia’s 74th birthday, and in honor of that his fans got a huge gift. For the first time ever, The Grateful Dead icon’s live and studio catalog debuted on streaming services, as well as iTunes, Apple Music and Google Play. So far solo albums like “Garcia,” “Reflections,” “Cats Under the Stars” were made available, along with selections from the “GarciaLive” archival series, with more titled expected to be added.

Rockin’ 1000, the rock band of over 1,000 members that last year convinced Foo Fighters to come to Cesna, Italy for a concert by performing “Learn To Fly,” held a concert over the weekend, and paid tribute to David Bowie. In case you missed it, as part of the band’s set at Orogel Stadium they performed the Thin White Duke’s classic “Rebel Rebel.” Check it out.
Slipknot is getting political. The band has announced that they’re going to play their North Carolina show as scheduled tonight, but they’re going to use the opportunity to fight back against the so-called “Bathroom Bill” that was passed there (known as HB2) earlier this year. “When we started this tour, we had reservations about playing in North Carolina because of a law recently passed there called HB2,” the band explains in a Facebook post. “The law halts the rights of LGBTQ people, doesn’t allow for cities to pass a living wage for the working class. We believe that regardless of who you are, or what you believe in this country- and in our own metal community- that everyone should be given access to equal opportunities they need to succeed. This law flies in the face of those values.” So, Slipknot has teamed up with Equality NC, the LGBTQ advocacy group leading the fight against HB2. Members of the group will be at the band’s gig and will even give concert goers the option to register to vote. “That way we won’t have to talk about this the next time we come back there,” their statement continues. “We’re coming to North Carolina to show our fans that they can make the difference needed to repeal this law and return their state to a place that welcomes everyone and values differences.” Rock on!
