Steven Tyler has confirmed the band is going on a farewell tour next year. “I love this band, I really do, and I want to squash every thought that anybody might have about this: The band’s over,” he said. “We’re doing a farewell tour, but it’s only because it’s time.” Tyler added that guitarist Joe Perry knows the situation (of course..and he’s said as much). Now, however, Tyler’s manager is backtracking a bit. “They are not breaking up. That’s not quite what he said,” Rebecca Warfield tells People. “He is still the ultimate frontman for Aerosmith, the greatest American rock band of all time. Aerosmith will always be his first love and nothing will ever take that away.” She goes on to explain how Tyler’s solo career is taking off, but stays very vague about what next year will bring for Aerosmith. “As far as 2017, Everyone will have to stay tuned as to hear what’s up his sleeve,” she adds. “Steven is taking it up a notch in all his endeavors.”
Steven Tyler has released another song from his upcoming country record, “We’re All Somebody From Somewhere.” The latest is the album’s title track, which Tyler co-wrote with The Cadillac Three’s Jaren Johnston. “We’re All Somebody From Somewhere,” Tyler’s first-ever solo album, is due out July 15th. The new tune is the third track he’s released from the record, following “Love Is Your Name” and “Red White & You.” Next up, Tyler is headed out on his solo “Out on a Limb Tour,” which kicks off Saturday. The tragic story of Lynyrd Skynyrd may soon be hitting theaters. Former Skynyrd drummer Artimus Pyle has teamed with Cleopatra Films to make a movie about the 1977 plan crash that killed the band’s founder and frontman Ronnie Van Zant, as well as many others. The movie is tentatively titled “Freebird,” after the band’s 1974 classic, and will based on Pyle’s perspective. He was one of the few men to survive the crash, somehow making it to a farmhouse to get help. “This film’s story — MY story — is not just about the plane crash but also about my personal relationship with the genius that was Ronnie Van Zant, whom I loved like a brother and still miss to this day,” Pyle, who’ll contribute music to the film, said in a statement.
The Prince estate case is headed back to a Minnesota courtroom today. A judge will hold a hearing on the procedures for determining who stands to inherit part of Prince’s fortune. It’s the second hearing since Prince died in April of an accidental drug overdose. No will has been found.
Prince’s Yellow Cloud guitar has been sold at auction. And the person who bought it _ is the owner of the Indianapolis Colts. Jim Irsay paid $137,500 for the instrument at an auction in Beverly Hills, California over the weekend. Prince used the guitar in numerous concerts _ and Heritage, the company that conducted the auction, says the guitar was one of Prince’s favourites favourites from late 1980s to the ’90s. The auction also featured other Prince-related items. Irsay also has instruments once owned by Jerry Garcia, John Lennon, Ringo Star, and Bob Dylan.
Whitney Houston’s Emmy wasn’t part of the auction. But the sell-off of loads of her stuff still took in quite a haul. Heritage Auctions says the auction of the late singer’s memorabilia has earned more than a half million dollars. The highest bid came for a pair of Nike Air Jordan sneakers given to Houston by the retired NBA star. They fetched $20,000. Last week, a federal judge blocked the auction house from selling Houston’s 1986 Emmy. The company returned the trophy to Houston’s family.
Billy Joel understands imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. The iconic rocker surprised a crowd at a Billy Joel cover band’s show on his native Long Island over the weekend. What’s more, he played three tunes with the tribute band, Big Shot. Sure, the audience was surprised, but the band probably wasn’t. According to Rolling Stone, three of the group’s lineup are also members of Joel’s live band when he performs his one-night-a-month residency at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. They put up a fight, but the Red Hot Chili Peppers didn’t quite have enough in them to knock Drake out of the top spot on the “Billboard” 200 Album chart. Drake’s “Views” moved another 124,000 equivalent album units, 33,000 were in pure album sales, which was just enough to give him his eighth week on top, and to deny the Peppers another number one album. The Peppers latest “The Getaway” had to settle for number two with 118,000 equivalent album units, 108,000 in traditional album sales. Those numbers were enough, however, to land the album at number one on the Top Album Sales chart. “The Getaway” is the seventh Top Ten for the band, and the third to go to number two, following 2011’s “I’m With You” and 2002’s “By the Way.” Their only album to make it to number one was 2006’s “Stadium Arcadium.” ONE MORE THING! Radiohead’s “A Moon Shaped Pool” jumps back onto the “Billboard” 200 this week at five, thanks to a physical release, as well as its addition to Spotify.
One Bon Jovi fan lived every Bon Jovi fan’s dream. Carol Cesario is battling stage four lung cancer and her wish was to meet Jon Bon Jovi. The rocker and the employees of his New Jersey restaurant JBJ Soul Kitchen worked together to surprise Cesario on Saturday. Bon Jovi invited her to the restaurant and according to her daughter, Rosie Skripkunis, the frontman surprised her and sat and chatted with the family for two hours. “What you did for our family is amazing and we are so grateful. This has been one of the best days of our families [sic] life,” Sripkunis wrote. “Seeing my mom this happy filled me with so much joy. I still can not believe this happened. Jon is a[n] amazing human. We appreciate everything he did for our mom and for our family today.” Aside from a story of the lifetime, Cesario also walked away with a signed guitar and a book.
