Ronald McDonald House is doing a fundraising drive and they’ve asked me to help spread the word in the Central Interior. This is clearly an ask for financial support for Ronald McDonald House. I believe in it and I’m glad to help.
Our family stayed at the old Ronald McDonald House for two long stays while my son Jameson recovered from brain cancer. It was a beautiful old home in Shaughnessy. I nicknamed it ‘Tickle Me Nuggets‘ on the GPS that someone had loaned us. Every time we drove back to our ‘home away from home’ the voice on the GPS would announce “arriving at tickle me nuggets.” Jameson got a kick out of that. I never did erase that before we gave the GPS back. Perhaps I should have. The old RMH could, when full, house 13 families in 13 small rooms. Some would have foam beds tossed on the floor to accommodate everyone in the family. It was not a place that was easy to keep-germ free for all the little bald-headed kids running around with weak immune systems from their cancer treatment. But it was a sanctuary for families going through a tough time.
Now there is a new Ronald McDonald House. It’s big, it can accommodate 73 families. It’s safer for the kids and a lot less accommodating for germs. Over 150 volunteers help run RMH. When they can, families pay $12 a night even though it costs many times more than that to host them. It’s affordable enough that, if they can get the time away from work to be with their child, it won’t bankrupt the family. It’s a fantastic facility but it needs money to run…yes that means donations…from people like you and me.
You and I can’t cure cancer but we can help make sure families with a sick kid don’t have to face financial ruin, just to be with their child going through a serious illness.

If you can, please make a small donation today, or even become a monthly donor. You can do that by clicking HERE.
And take a look at the some of the pictures of the new Ronald McDonald House on their website. It’s quite nice. It even has a slide inside. The kids love that.
