What do the Moody Blues, Dire Straits, Eurythmics, J. Geils Band, Bon Jovi, Depeche Mode, and The Cars. have in common. They are all first-time nominees on the ballot for induction next spring into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. 900 industry experts vote to elect 5 to 7 acts into the Hall. They’ll announce the winners in December.
Tom Petty talked to The LA Times two days after his 4oth anniversary tour with the Heartbreakers. It was only 5 days before his death. He said that he rarely missed a concert and was a little worried when got laryngitis this summer. When his doctor took a look at his file he saw that Petty hadn’t been sick for 17 years. He said performing kept the band young. Petty died Monday at the age of 66.
The David Bowie exhibition “David Bowie Is,” wraps up in New York’s Brooklyn Museum next year. It’s been touring the world since 2013. It features over 300 objects collected throughout Bowie’s life including handwritten set lists and musical scores. And Bowie’s music plays during the exhibit.
