The Eagles hit the stage for the first time since Glenn Frey’s death at the Classic West Festival at Dodger’s Stadium in Los Angeles this weekend. Joe Walsh told the crowd “We are the Eagles from Los Angeles. We’re back, and we’re back for our family, and you are part of our family. This one’s for you, Glenn. You’re in our hearts, and the music goes on.” Deacon Frey, Glenn’s 24-year-old son and country star Vince Gill filled in for him. Deacon sang “Take It Easy,” “Peaceful Easy Feeling,” and “Already Gone.” Gill sang “Lyin’ Eyes,” “Tequila Sunrise,” “Take It to the Limit” and “New Kid in Town.” Bob Seger, joined them for “Heartache Tonight,” a song he co-wrote.
Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan, with Earth, Wind & Fire, Journey and Fleetwood Mac also played at the Classic West Festival. All six acts will do it all over again July 29th and 30th, when Classic East Festival plays New York’s CitiField. For tickets go to The Classic Website.
According to Queen’s websit the Freddie Mercury bopic is going ahead. The website says it will be directed by Bryan Singer and Freddie will be played by Rami Malek. For updates go to Queen’s website.
The copy of “Double Fantasy” John Lennon signed for the man who would killed him just hours later is hitting being auctioned. A maintenance man found it in a planter at the building’s entrance and he handed it over to police. Eventually, authorities returned the album to the maintenance man with a letter of thanks from the district attorney involved in the prosecution of Chapman. Aside from Lennon’s signature, this particular copy of “Double Fantasty” also has Lennon’s killer’s forensically enhanced fingerprints and a police evidence marker. Since it was returned, the album has been auctioned off multiple times, most recently for $850-thousand in 2010. This time around, it’s expected to pull in $1.5-million.
