Emerson, Lake & Palmer co-founder Greg Lake passed away Tuesday at the age of 69, after what his manager called “a long and stubborn battle with cancer.”
“It is with great sadness that I must now say goodbye to my friend and fellow bandmate, Greg Lake,” Carl Palmer wrote in a statement. “Greg’s soaring voice and skill as a musician will be remembered by all who knew his music and recordings.”
Greg’s passing comes just nine months after bandmate Keith Emerson took his own life at the age of 71. “Having lost Keith this year as well has made this particularly hard for all of us,” Palmer added. “As Greg sang at the end of ‘Pictures at an Exhibition,’ ‘death is life.’ His music can now live forever in the hearts of all who loved him.”
In addition to his work with Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Lake was also a member of the band King Crimson, whose 1969 album “In the Court of the Crimson King” was once called “an uncanny masterpiece” by The Who’s Pete Townshend. After Emerson, Lake & Palmer broke up in 1979, Lake went out on his own, with his self-titled solo debut peaking at number 63 on the U.S. charts. He reunited with Emerson in the eighties, and released a new album with drummer Cozy Powell (“Emerson, Lake & Powell”), which was a hit.
Yoko Ono used the anniversary of John Lennon’s death to make a plea to stop gun violence. Ono posted a photo of Lennon’s bloody glasses and writes, “We are turning this beautiful country into a war zone. Together, let’s bring back America, the green land of peace.” She calls the death of a loved one a “hollowing experience” and after 36 years, she and her son Sean still miss Lennon.
Madonna says she and Michael Jackson once made out. She says once she slipped the pop star a glass of wine, they got busy. How “busy?” Madonna didn’t say _ but she does say that she made the first move _ because Jackson was “a little bit shy.” This tidbit came out when Madonna appeared on James Corden’s “Carpool Karaoke” segment on Wednesday night’s “Late Late Show” on C-B-S.
In case you missed it. Mick Jagger is a dad…for the eighth time. The 73-year-old Rolling Stones frontman and his girlfriend Melanie Hamrick, who is more than four decades younger than her boo, welcomed a son. The “delighted” couple haven’t released a name and are asking for privacy.
Jagger has seven other children with four other women and five grandchildren.
