Story from Entertainment Weekly….Paul Simon fans don’t have to wait much longer for his new album. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer will release “Stranger to Stranger,” his first record in five years, on June 3rd – and he just debuted the album’s first single, “Wristband.”
“It’s about making music that sounds old and new at the same time; music with a sense of mystery,” Simon explains. “Sound is the theme of this album as much as it’s about the subjects of the individual songs. If people get that, I’ll be pleased. The right song at the right time can live for generations. A beautiful sound, well that’s forever.”

In case you missed it, Simon & Garfunkel’s classic “Sound of Silence” is a hit again thanks to the “Sad Affleck” viral video, in which Ben Affleck looks sad after being asked about the bad reviews of “Batman vs. Superman.” Since the video went viral, the song, which was released in 1966, returned to the charts, debuting this week at number six on the “Billboard” Top Rock Songs chart.
Dennis Davis, David Bowie‘s longtime drummer and collaborator, has died following a long battle with cancer. “He was one of the most creative drummers I have ever worked with,” Tony Visconti, Bowie’s producer, writes in a Facebook post. “He came into David Bowie’s life when we recorded some extra tracks for ‘Young Americans’ and stayed with us through ‘Scary Monsters’ and beyond.” Davis is also heard on albums like “Station to Station,” “Low,” “Stage,” and “Lodger” along with tracks like “Heroes.” Aside from the Thin White Duke, the drummer has worked with an incredible list of other artists including Jermaine Jackson, Iggy Pop and Stevie Wonder. In his post, Visconti gives us some insight into the man Davis was, explaining the drummer was a former member of the Air Force who told stories of seeing a crashed UFO first hand. The producer ends his tribute by noting “there will never be another drummer, human being and friend like Dennis, a magical man.” Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.
Mark your calendar, Bob Dylan fans, the icon’s new album is set to hit stores on May 20th. “Fallen Angels” includes 12 classic American songs, written by the likes of Johnny Mercer and made famous by artists like Frank Sinatra. Aside from your average digital and CD versions, “Fallen Angels” will also be available in a limited blue vinyl edition exclusively at Barnes and Noble on its release date. Can’t wait until May? One of the album’s songs, “Melancholy Mood,” will be available as part of a four-track 7″ collection on Record Store Day on April 16th.
The groundbreaking rap group N-W-A will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tonight in Brooklyn. Founding member Ice Cube says he never thought it would happen, and he’s honoured and humbled to be inducted. While the group may not fit the traditional definition of rock music, Ice Cube says they embodied the rock-and-roll spirit of honesty and rebellion. Other inductees include Cheap Trick, Chicago, Deep Purple and Steve Miller.
The seemingly odd couple of U-S Vice President Joe Biden and singer Lady Gaga are rallying students in their campaign to end sexual assault on campus.
The two appeared at a rally in Las Vegas last night as part of the White House’s “It’s On Us” campaign. Biden has been heavily promoting the initiative that urges people to support sexual assault victims, and intervene when consent is questionable.
