Looks like The Simpsons is never going away. Fox just renewed the animated sitcom for not just one more season, but two, bringing it up to 28 seasons. The animated comedy premiered in 1990 and has since won 31 Emmy awards. With a 27th and 28th season, the show will reach a whopping 625 episodes.
Joni Mitchell’s friend is now in charge of her medical decisions and Mitchell may be released from a hospital soon. Attorney Alan Watenmaker told a judge in Los Angeles yesterday that Mitchell’s longtime friend, Leslie Morris, needed emergency conservator powers because of Mitchell’s possible release. Mitchell has no family members who can care for her. An attorney appointed to represent Mitchell’s interests agreed that Mitchell should be placed under a temporary conservatorship. Morris does not have control of Mitchell’s finances. Mitchell has been in a hospital since March 31 for undisclosed reasons.
Look closer at that lime in the new commercial for Sauza 901 tequila. That lime is Justin Timberlake. The commercial shows a lime named Rick “Sour” Vane talking about how he used to live the good life as a garnish on tequila until Sauza 901 came along and didn’t need any lime. Timberlake sold his small alcohol business, 901, to Sauza last year.

He’s the man behind Big Bird _ and hangs with Oscar the Grouch in that “Sesame Street” trash can. While some fans know who Caroll Spinney is, few have seen him outside of costume. That’s changing now that he is being featured in a documentary called “I Am Big Bird: The Caroll Spinney Story.” The film will be available on iTunes and video-on-demand starting today _ and will be in theatres May 15. Spinney is 81 and has been handling the Big Bird chores for nearly half a century. Spinney says he thinks of Big Bird as one of his kids, but isn’t as warm toward Oscar. He says Oscar is more like a guy who knows him _ but doesn’t like him.
The Muppets are helping YouTube mark its 10th anniversary. They will be appearing in skits and other online videos along with several people who have made a name for themselves on the video-sharing service. YouTube’s anniversary event runs through May. The streaming service opened with its public beta launch in May 2005.
Star Wars” is getting some online love. Google is putting information about the fictional universe into its Knowledge Graph. Its’ the first time such a fantasy location has been treated like it’s real. The collaboration means if you ask Google “Who is Luke’s father,” you’ll get Darth Vader as the answer. The tie-in was announced yesterday _ known to fans as Star Wars Day, May 4. You know, as in May the Fourth Be With You.
She was one of the original crew members on the Starship Enterprise. But she didn’t stay on “Star Trek” long. Grace Lee Whitney has died. The actress played Captain Kirk’s assistant in the first eight episodes of the series. She was 85 _ and her family says she died this past Friday of natural causes.
The Academy Award-winning writer of “Dances With Wolves” has died. His name was Michael Blake and he was 69 when he died of cancer. Blake wrote the novel that became the movie at the urging of his longtime friend, actor Kevin Costner. The novel didn’t do well. But Costner asked him to turn it into a movie script _ and the rest was history.
