Keith Richards says he loves playing stadiums and loves it when the weather is on their side, or in his words, “When God joins the band.” The Rolling Stones will kick off a 15-city stadium tour in San Diego on May 24th. Richards says the only goal the Stones have anymore is “how far we can run the string.” Mick Jagger says the trick to longevity is to treat every show differently. The last stop on the Stones’ Zip Code tour is July 15th in Quebec City. But Richards said more dates may follow.
The Rolling Stones are going on tour this summer — and it appears the only Canadian concert on the “Zip Code” tour is Quebec City. The tour will coincide with the re-release of the Stones’ seminal 1971 album “Sticky Fingers” on May 26th which features classics like “Brown Sugar” and “Wild Horses.”
A park that’s blocks from where Stevie Ray and Jimmie Vaughan grew up may be the site of an art piece in their honor. The Dallas Morning News reports documentary filmmaker Kirby Warnock is leading the project. The city has set aside money for the piece of public art in Kiest Park, but Warnock still needs to raise $68,000 for the rest of the cost and for 20 years’ worth of maintenance. The park board will vote Thursday on an agreement with a foundation regarding the project. What the piece will look like has not been determined. Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble will be among the inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Saturday.
The Kinks musical “Sunny Afternoon” was one of the big winners at the Olivier Awards, Britain’s answer to the Tonys. It won four awards, including best new musical and outstanding achievement in music for Ray Davies for writing the play’s score. Davies says people are the source of his material and he adds, “So the next time you’re in a park and you see someone like me looking at you, don’t phone the police.”
Jon Bon Jovi will put his support behind a show that takes famous musicians back to their hometowns to find out what would have happened had they never left. The Hollywood Reporter reports Bon Jovi will be an executive producer for a reality show called “If I Wasn’t A Rock Star.” Bon Jovi calls it “a celebration of the working men and women of this country,” who he says are “the real rock stars.” Details of where and when it will air or which rock stars will be involved have not been given.
